National captain Mamunul Islam returned to Dhaka on Monday from India to join the national team camp at BKSP ahead of two FIFA friendlies against Sri Lanka.
Mamunul was released by Indian Super League franchise Atletico de Kolkata to play the matches after he failed to make it in their starting lineup in the first three matches.
The midfielder said he has no regrets for not playing any part in the ISL and added that he is now looking forward to the Sri Lanka matches with the national team.
‘I took the matter sportingly,’ Mamunul said about his absence in first three ISL matches. There are many examples in the world football for the quality players to struggle to get a regular playing opportunity.
Mamunul expressed his joy for getting a chance to return to the national team.
‘I’m happy to be a part of the national team and our main target is to win both the matches against Sri Lanka,’ said Mamunul. The 28-year year old midfielder believed that the abrupt termination of Dutch head coach Lodeijk De Kruif will not have any negative impact on their performances.
‘We all are professional players and our local coach Titu Bhai [interim coach Saiful Bari Titu] knows well how to handle the team,’ said Mamunul.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka national football team is scheduled to arrive at Dhaka 11:20am today for the friendlies which will be held on October 24 and 27 respectively in Jessore and Rajshahi.
Sri Lanka team will have a short break at the BKSP for lunch before they leave for Jessore by bus.
