Iran moved within one point of qualifying in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship final round on Tuesday when they trounced Jordan 6-1 in their third match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The Iranians now lead Group B with nine points from three matches and will only require a draw in their Thursday’s last match against hosts Bangladesh. India thrashed a hapless United Arab Emirates 12-0 in their third match to move to second position with six points from three matches.
The Indians must now beat Jordan in their last match and wait for Bangladesh to shock Iran slip in order to grab the only qualification spot from the group. Theoretically, Bangladesh also have a chance as they have six points to their collection. But the local girls have to beat Iran by at least nine goals and hope India slip against Jordan to qualify.
