Bangladesh into semis
Bangladesh confirmed their semi-final berth in the SAFF Women’s Championship after a convincing 3-1 win over Maldives at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad on Monday.
Forward Sabina Kathun scored a brace while Maynu Marma was the other scorer for the winners. Maynu put the winners in front in the 18th minute while Sabina Khatun extended the lead with her 35th minute strike. Aishath Sama pulled one goal back for the Maldives in the 84th minute but Sabina scored her second goal of the match just three minutes later to seal the comfortable victory.
With the win, Bangladesh finished as the Group A runners-up behind India, who thrashed Afghanistan 12-0 in the other match of the day to move into the last-four as group champions.
Earlier, Bangladesh beat Afghanistan 6-0 but received a 5-1 thrashing from the reigning champions India.
Bangladesh will face Group B champions Nepal in the second semi-final on November 19 while India will play Sri Lanka in the other semi-final on the same day.
