Singapore Football Association backed out from its promise of sending the national team for the Bangabandhu Cup, saying that they will send only their Under-23 team, said an official on Wednesday. ‘Singapore confirmed us that they will send their Olympic team,’ said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag. Singapore is the second country to agree to send their Under-23 team after Bahrain.
Shohag said the other three countries – Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka – will send their national team.
The hosts Bangladesh Football Federation will unveil the log of the tournament at a programme today.
The third edition of Bangabandhu Cup is scheduled to be held from January 29 to February 8 in Dhaka and Sylhet.
The BFF, however, is yet to confirm whether they will hold the draw or announcing the fixture today as planned earlier.
The initial plan was to put Bangladesh, Malaysia and Sri Lanka in one group and Bahrain U-23, Singapore and Thailand in the other group.
But the BFF official said they might alter the plan now brining, Singapore U-23 and Sri Lanka in Bangladesh’s group, putting Malaysia on the other side of the draw.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhit is expected to unveil the logo of the tournament.
