Bangladesh made a quick turnaround in their body language showing the right spirit to restrict India to 146-7 in the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangalore on Wednesday.
Al-Amin Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman claimed two wickets each while Sakib al Hasan, Shuvagata Hom and Mahmudullah chipped in with one wicket apiece as the Tigers stifled India on a two-paced wicket at the Chinnaswamy stadium.
The Tigers were heavily criticised for allowing the emotion to get better of them in the previous match against Australia when they were forced to field a depleted team due to suspension of two bowlers and the illness of Tamim Iqbal.
Skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza bore the brunt of criticism as he appeared dejected and failed to lift the team when it needed most. Mashrafee bowled just one over against the Aussies and felt numb when a catch came to his way.
It prompted Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar to raise question about his captaincy and place in the team. Mashrafee forced Gavaskar to eat a humble pie by leading Bangladesh from the front against India.
He opened the bowling once again and took himself off after the first over. He returned to action in the eighth over and finished his remaining three overs on the trot with a return of 0-22.
Though he did not get any wicket, his miserly bowling created pressure on the Indian and did not allow them to get a big score. Some of his fielding place even left the commentators surprised.
India targeted Mustafizur Rahman as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan struck him two sixes in the same over, but the left-arm pace bounced back in style to dupe Rohit with his customary slower delivery.
Sakib trapped Dhawan in front before Shuvagata bowled Virat Kohli just when the star Indian batsman started to open up. India were still on course for a big total but Al-Amin, who earlier dropped Kohli on 11, claimed two wickets in two balls to put them in back foot.
Mashrafee surprisingly introduced Mahmudullah in the 17th over and he repaid the faith with the wicket of Yuvraj Singh. Mustafiz picked Ravindra Jadeja in the final over to deny India any momentum.
