‘Bachao Football’, the anti-Salahuddin alliance, finally found their president candidate for the forthcoming Bangladesh Football Federation election as they introduced parliament member of Narshingdi-2 Kamrul Ashraf Khan Poton on Saturday. Kamrul, who doesn’t have any experience as an organiser of the game, was recently elected as the president of Narshingdi District Football Association.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club president Manzur Kader, who is leading the alliance, introduced Kamrul as their presidential candidate at his Gulshan office.
Former national footballer and chairman of football committee of Sheikh Jamal, Ashrafuddin Ahmed Chunnu said that they will announce their full panel for the election under the leadership of Kamrul.
‘He [Kamrul] will lead our panel in the BFF election as president candidate,’ Chunnu said.
‘We relied on the renowned faces like Kazi Salahuddin in the past but he failed to improve the game and we have found a fresh blood in Kamrul, who has the potential to create a revolution in country’s football.’
After collecting his nomination, Kamrul also promised to work for the development of the game, if he was elected as the BFF president.
‘Salahuddin Bhai was a legendary footballer but he failed to develop the game,’ said Kamrul, who is also the chairman of Bangladesh Fertilizer Association.
‘I’m taking part in the election for the love of football. I have an aspiration to take Bangladesh football to a new height if I’m elected as the president. I want to work with everyone and hope to get their support.’
Another form for the president post was also bought by another unfamiliar figure in football arena named Nurul Islam Nuru, who is the president of Tongi Krira Chakra.
The incumbent BFF president Kazi Salahuddin didn’t collect his nomination paper on the first day of distribution as he will collect it today along with the other members of his panel.
A total number of seven nomination papers were sold on Saturday including the one bought by current vice-president Tabith Awal for the same post.
The president post has been obtained by current BFF boss Kazi Salahuddin for the last eight years after he was being elected for the first time in 2008. Salahuddin barely faced any obstacle from opponent panel to be reelected again in 2012.
