Defending joint-champions Mohammedan Sporting Club stormed into the semi-finals of the Club Cup Hockey tournament with a crushing 7-1 win over Sonali Bank Recreation Centre at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Friday. It was Mohammedan’s third successive win in the tournament, which put the Black and White outfits in the last four with one match to spare.
Rubel Hossain put the champions ahead in the sixth minute of the match through a field goal before Russell Mahmud Jimmy doubled the margin four minutes later.
Jimmy bagged his second in the 19th minute while Deen Islam made it 4-0 five minutes later.
Rubel scored his second of the game in the 26th minute before Deen Islam extended the lead in the 29th minute.
Kamruzzaman Rana scored the team’s seventh goal in the 48th minute before Ajit pulled one
goal back for the losing side.
In the day’s other match at the same venue, Bangladesh Sporting Club thrashed Wari Club 5-0, thanks to braces from Belal and Sohel while Sumon scored the other.
