Leg-spinner Jubair Hossain put up an impressive all-round performance to help Abahani Limited register a two-wicket win over Brothers Union in the Dhaka Premier League on Saturday. Jubair scored an unbeaten 10-ball 19 along with his 4-44 to pave the way for the title aspirants as they reached 248-8 in 49.5 overs after restricting Brothers to 244-9 at the BKSP.The win helped Abahabni to come out from the last ball disappointment against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in their previous match.
In the day’s another match, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club brought back high flying Jamal into the ground as they defeated the Dhanmondi-based club by eight wickets to register their third win in as many matches.
On the other hand, Bangladesh skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza is yet to find any success for Kalabagan Krira Chakra as they lost their third game when they were beaten by Prime Bank Cricket Club by 47 runs.
Abahani v Brothers Leg-spinner Jubair Hossain wielded his willow timely and along with Saqlain Sajib helped Abahani avoid a scare against Brothers as their undefeated 31-run stand in the ninth wicket propelled them home after a nail biting finish.
The young leg-spinner, who picked up six-wickets in his first match, translated his confidence in the batting as he struck two fours and a six to salvage his side from an improbable situation.
But it was Saqlain, who scored 20 off 14 balls, struck the final boundary followed by a six in the previous ball to steer their side home with their rapid-fire 16-ball stand.
Abahani were struggling at 42-3 before Indian Uday Kaul (59) guided the ship with his third successive half-century and resurrected their innings through forming two valuable partnerships of 47 and 57, respectively with Nazmul Hossain (23) and Mosssadek Hossain (43).
Earlier, man of the match Juabir restricted Brothers under 250 runs despite they looked set for a big score as Imrul Kayes(69) and Tushar Imran(20) seemed comfortable in their 52-run second wicket stand.
Jubair came to rescue after dismissing the duo in the span of three balls to shift the momentum and later also removed Zimbabwean hard-hitting batsmen Sean Williams (17) to bring Abahani back into the game.
Primer Dholeshwar v Sheikh Jamal Farhad Reza and Sanjamul Islam picked up seven wickets between them as Prime Doleshwar dismissed Sheikh Jamal for 99 runs in 27.1 overs and later Roquibul Hasan’s unbeaten half-century helped them to cruise home with an eight wicket victory at Fatullah.
Farhad picked up 4-20 and Sanjamul grabbed 3-24 before Roquibul’ 53 guided their side to the top of the table.
Kalabagan v Prime Bank Fever-stricken inspiring Tiger skipper agonisingly saw his four-wicket haul went in vain as his side Kalabagan lost by 47 runs against Prime Bank Cricket Club at Mirpur.
Shuvagata Hom scored 60 while Sabbir Rahman made 53 before Mashrafee’s 4-56 helped his side dismiss Prime Bank for 280 runs but later Kalabagan were dismissed for 233 runs from a good position to throw away the match.
Kalabagan were at one stage 4-175 before debutant left-arm spinner Raihan Uddin’s 4-38 derailed them as their last six wickets fell for just 58 runs.
