Four-time champions Abahani Limited registered their second win of the Bangladesh Premier League when they beat Team BJMC 1-0 at the MA Aziz Stadium on Tuesday.
English forward Lee Andrew Tuck scored the all important goal in the 32nd minute to propel the Sky-Blues to joint top of the points table along with their Chittagong namesake with seven points.
BJMC forward Sohel Rana wasted great a chance to give his side a deserved lead in the 25th minute but the former national forward’s header following a Zakir Hossain Ziku’s cross went inches over the post.
Sohel wasted another great opportunity six minutes later when Nigerian Samson Illiasu provided him with a clean through and despite finding Abahani goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel in one-on-one situation, Sohel put the ball straight to him.
Tuck put Abahani ahead in the 32nd minute from a brilliant free-kick but the Englishman was shown the marching order by referee Jalal Uddin for his second yellow card in the 80th minute.
In the day’s first match, Mohammedan Sporting Club continued their winless streak when the fading giants were held to a goalless draw by Feni Soccer Club.
The traditional Black and White outfits began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Rahmatganj MFS before suffering a huge 4-2 defeat to Chittagong Abahani in their last match.
This was also Feni Soccer’s second draw in three matches. They began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Brothers Union before losing 1-0 to Abahani Limited.
Feni Soccer completely dominated the first-half of the match and created a series of attacks. On the contrary, Mohammedan looked a pale shadow of their brilliant past.
Feni could take the lead in the 27th minute when captain Akbar Hossain Ridon headed home a chip from Frank but the assistant referee cancelled out the goal due to off-side.
Mohammedan created their first attack at the hour mark when Biplu Rahman set Ismail Bangoura a through but the Guinean’s shot from the edge of the box was cleared by a Feni defender.
