Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra’s fall from grace continued as the last edition’s runners-up lost their fourth consecutive match of the league, this time 0-2 to Feni Soccer Club in Mynensingh on Saturday.
Ghanaian forward Tuam Frank put Feni Soccer ahead in the first-half before his striking partner Chowmrin Rakhain netted the other one nine minutes from time to rub salt in Russell’s wounds.
With the first win of the league, Feni moved into the sixth position of the points table with five points from four games while Russell remained at the bottom of the table without a single point.
Earlier, Russell lost their three games to Uttar Baridhara, Rahamatganj MFS and Chittagong Abahani.
The 2012 treble winners struggled in the attacking third of the field as they have scored only one goal in the league so far.
As a result, Russell coach Maruful Haque fielded Shakhwat Hossain Rony up front for the first time alongside Ethiopian Fiktu Taffera and Rummon Hossain, but all of them were proved ineffective.
Jamal Bhuiyan was the only exception as the midfielder roamed all over the pitch and created few chances.
Jamal could only rue his luck when his long range effort from 30-yard out hit the woodwork in the 20th minute.
Rummon saw his header on a Monayem Khan Raju cross from right flank hit the side post in the 32nd minute.
Frank, however, gave Feni the lead in the 35th minute when the Ghanaian fired home on a rebounder from the edge of the box after Ridon’s initial effort from goalmouth melee was blocked by Russell keeper Ziaur Rahman.
Raju wasted a great chance to level the margin in the 39th minute after a jinking run from Jamal, who snatched a ball from a Feni defender and darted into the left corner of the box before providing a cutback to Raju, who failed to connect it properly.
Chowmrin Rakhain doubled the lead in 81st minute after receiving a short pass from Shahran Halder, the speedy forward ran past his markers and slotted the ball home past keeper Zia to seal the victory for Feni.
