An emotional Golam Rabbani Choton gave all the credits to her charges after their historical 4-2 win over Chinese Taipei on Saturday that put them into the final round of the next year’s AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship in China. With the win, the Under-16 girls also became the first women’s football team from Bangladesh that has qualified for the final stage of any AFC tournament.
‘Our girls proved that they are the best team of the Group C. I salute them for the historical achievement,’ said coach Choton after the match.
‘This win will not only boost women’s football but also will take the country’s football to a certain level.
‘We won two tournaments previously but I think this time our team improved match by match and they dominated the game even on a heavy surface.’
Choton also gave special thanks to captain Krishna Rani for her important role in the attacking third as well as earning two penalties in the first half.
‘I give all the credits to all my players, specially my captain Krishna, who was the main person behind the historic win,’ he said.
‘Though we conceded an early goal, we never lost the tempo and put immense pressure to destroy such a strong team like Chinese Taipei.’
