Abahani Limited, who just lost their Bangladesh Premier League crown to Sheikh Russell KC, ended their campaign with humiliating 4-1 defeat to Muktijoddha Sangsad at the
Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Muktijoddha’s Nigerian recruit Joseph Ozurumba bagged a brace with Zahed Parvez Chowdhury and Azmal Hossain Biddut scoring one goal apiece for last year’s runners up side. Abdul Baten Komol registered a consolation goal for the Sky Blues.
Abahani, who suffered their second consecutive defeat, still remained in second position with 29 points from their allotted 16 games but their position can soon be overtaken by Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Jamal, have a game against lowly Brothers Union in hand with 28 points.
Muktijoddha finished their league campaign in sixth position, with 19 points from their 16 games.
The first-leg game between the two teams ended in a stalemate.
Meanwhile, Abahani will travel to Kathmandu today to take part in the qualifying campaign of the AFC President’s Cup which gets underway from May 7 with Abahani facing off against Three Star Club of Nepal.
Abahani will take on Taiwan Power Company in their second match on May 9 before ending their campaign with a match against Erchim FC of Mongolia on May 11.
The top two teams will go through to the final round.
