Abahani Limited’s Austrian coach George Kottan will stand in the dugout for the last time for the Sky Blues during their Bangladesh Premier League match against Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra today.
After the game the 68-year old campaigner will leave the four-time professional league champions to join the FIFA goal project starting later this month.Under his tutelage, the Sky Blues have earned 27 points from 14 matches to stand fourth in the league standings, nine points behind of table toppers Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Kottan believes today’s match against Russell is very crucial for his side to remain in the title race and he also wants to leave the club on a winning note.
‘We always enjoy our game against Russell,’ said the Austrian coach.
‘But unfortunately we lost the first-leg match and we never know what will happen tomorrow.
‘We have to play our best football to beat Russell and hope I will leave the club with a victory tomorrow [today].’
Kottan blamed the Bangladesh Football Federation behind the reason of his early departure before completing the league.
‘The only thing I don’t like is BFF’s deferring habit as due to them [BFF] I have to leave before the league has been completed,’ said a dejected Kottan, who again expressed his desire to work with the national team.
‘I don’t know what will happen in the future but I am always ready to help the Bangladesh national team and when BFF will ask me I will come to work with the national team.’
He also thinks that to improve the quality of the national team and local talents the BFF will have to reduce the quantity of foreign players from the league.
‘To boost the national team you have to reduce the domination of the foreign players in the domestic league so that the local players will get more chances to prove their worth,’ said Kottan.
