The sixth round of Bangladesh Premier League concluded on Saturday with four teams sharing the top spot of the points table with 12 points each as Abahani Limited joined three others after their 2-0 win over Arambagh Krira Sangha. Abahani joined with Muktijoddha Sangshad KC, Rahmatganj MFS and Sheikh Jamal DC while Chittagong Abahani are just one point behind them.
Meanwhile, Brothers Union came from two-goal behind to draw 2-2 against Mohammedan in the second match of the day.
Nigerian marksman Sunday Chizoba scored one goal apiece in either halves to give Abahani their third win of the league.
Sunday scored in the fourth minute after the Nigerian was brought down by Arambagh’s Ghanaian defender Issah Yussif inside the box and referee instructed for a spot kick.
Arambagh keeper Mitul Hasan denied Sunday’s initial effort from the spot but the Nigerian striker smashed home on rebound.
Arambagh midfielder Sajidur Rahman wasted a chance in the 23rd minute when full-back Mansur Amin delivered a low cross from the left flank and Sajidur met the cross only to tap wide.
Arambagh were reduced to10-man in the added time of the first half after Saddam Hossain received a straight red card following his foul on English playmaker Lee Tuck.
Sunday found his second to seal Abahani’s victory in the 85th minute. Collecting a pass from Lee, Sunday darted into the box and took a shot that deflected off onrushing Arambagh keeper Mitul Hasan before went into the net.
In the other match, Towhidul Alam Sabuz put Mohammedan ahead by scoring the fastest goal of the ongoing league with just 16 seconds into the clock.
Masud Rana doubled the lead in the 17th minute before Brothers’ Nigerian forward Kingsley Chizoba scored a brace in the 22nd and 62nd minute to save the blushes of his team.
It was Mohammedan’s fourth successive draw as they earned five points from five draws from six matches to be placed eighth while Brothers remained one spot behind of Mohammedan with same number of earnings.
