Defen-ding champions Dhaka Abahani continued their winning run with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Arambagh Krira Sangha in the lone match of the Citycell Bangladesh League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
National forward Enamul netted a brace for the holders while his Ghanaian strike partner Awudu Ibrahim scored the other goal.
Abahani took command of the right from the start and Arambagh were trying hard to restrict their attackers with a defensive approach. Although Arambagh fielded a three-pronged attack with Alfaz returning from London after missing three matches and Dominic Kaboye and Nicodemus, their offence rarely troubled the Abahani defence.
Abahani on the other hand attacked through the midfield and the wings but had to wait for the first goal until the 34th minute. However, the sky-blue outfit were unfortunate in the 11th minute when midfielder Ujjal’s neat placing shot from an Awudu Ibrahim through pass beat Arambagh goalkeeper Masudur but much to the dismay of the Abahani supporters the ball rolled wide of the side post.
Abahani continued to mount the pressure and Awudu Ibrahim’s sublime skill again was the key factor in breaking the deadlock. After receiving Motiur Munna’s through pass the Ghanaian forward shrugged off the challenge of his marker and placed the ball into the far post with a perfectly weighted placing shot.
Three minutes before the interval Abahani midfielder Pranatosh saw his fierce drive from 35 yards out bounce back to play off the side post.
The second half belonged to Enamul who scored two goals in a space of five minutes. Enamul pounced on a faulty clearance by Arambagh defender Pradip Barua in the 52nd minute and beat Masudur at the keeper’s far post for his first goal and then converted a penalty four minutes later.
Arambagh defender Parvez when trying to stop an advancing Enamul fouled him in the box and referee Azad Rahman duly awarded the spot-kick. Enamul sent Masudur the wrong way to provide Abahani a three-goal cushion.
Abahani were in a relaxed mood in the remaining minutes and Arambagh had more owes to suffer when their midfielder Nurul Islam was sent off five minutes time.
Abahani lead the table with 49 points from 17 matches while Arambagh remained on their previous 15 from the same number of outings.
