Bangladesh Football Federation vice-presidents Badal Roy and Kazi Nabil Ahmed swapped their positions in the two important standing committees as the newly-elected body of BFF took charge through a meeting on Saturday.
Badal Roy, who was the chairman of the national team management committee last term, will replace his fellow vice-president Kazi Nabil Ahmed at the top of the development committee, while Nabil will take charge of the NTMC as the chairman.
Senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedi, however, will have a busy time in the next four years as he has been made chairman of the finance committee, while he was retained in his previous chairman position of the professional league committee.
Newly elected vice-president Tabith Awal has been given charge of the competitions committee which earlier was headed by Manzur Hossain Malu who failed to get re-elected in the April 30 election making a place for fresh blood Tabith.
Another new face Sheikh Maruf Hasan, who has been elected as a member, replaced veteran organiser Harunur Rashid as the chairman of the Dhaka Metropolis Football League Committee, although Harun successfully secured his member position in the last month’s polls.
‘Harun Bhai has not been given charge of any standing committee yet but it does not mean he will not be given any responsibility. We have some other committees to form,’ said Salam Murshedi while briefing the journalists after the meeting at the BFF Bhaban.
Arif Khan Joy was given the charge of the countrywide tournament Club Cup Championship organising committee but the newly elected vice-president immediately resigned from the position although his main election promise was the decentralisation of football.
‘The meeting appointed Joy as the chairman of the Club Cup Championship organising committee but he resigned right after the meeting through a letter. His resignation letter has been accepted,’ said BFF president Kazi Salahuddin.
Joy initially refused to talk to reporters as he was not in the right shape of mind, though he spoke out finally saying that he was given charge of a committee where there is very little scope for work.
‘I wanted to take charge of either the national team management committee or the development committee where I can contribute with my experience. But instead I was given a committee which is insignificant,’ he said.
Many questioned the decision of giving Nabil the charge of national team management committee despite him not having a playing background, though BFF president Salahuddin defended the decision.
‘He may not be a technical person. But he is successfully running the Abahani football team for the last nine years, so I am sure he can handle the job,’ said Salahuddin.
BFF members Fazlur Rahman Babul and Sirajul Islam Bachchu have been kept chairmen of the grounds and women’s football committee respectively.
