Bangladesh Army football team drew 1-1 with the Indian Army football side a friendly football match at the Banani Army Stadium on Wednesday.
The home side started brightly and got the first scoring chance in the eighth minute of the 60-minute game, but Md Saminul Haque’s strike from just outside the box was brilliantly saved by the Indian goalkeeper.
India’s Antony Ramesh’s effort from a free-kick in the 22nd minute was blocked by the Bangladesh keeper and Samtu Subba’s header on the stroke of halftime hit the woodwork.
Bangladesh took the lead just eight minutes into the second half through Md Tareq Aziz. Md Selon Khan snatched the ball from an Indian defender and dribbled past the goalie before passing to Tareq who tucked the ball into an open net.
But the visitors equalised the margin four minutes later, Samtu Subba’s powerful strike from the top of the box found the back of the net.
Lieutenant General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Haq was present as the chief guest while the Indian high commissioner, Pankaj Saran, and BFF President Kazi Salahuddin were special guests.
As many as 18 members of the Swadhin Bangla Football Team, including team manager Tanveer Mazhar Islam Tanna and skipper Zakaria Pintu, were also present on the occasion.
