In a thrilling final on Monday at the Dasarath Rangasala in Kathmandu, Bangladesh won their maiden SAFF Women’s Championship title with a 3-1 victory over Nepal.
Forward Krishna Rani Sarkar scored a brace after super-sub midfielder Shamsunnahar (junior) opened the account for Bangladesh while Nepal forward Anita Basent pulled one goal back for hosts.
Shamsunnahar (jr), who took the ground in the 10th minute by replacing injured forward Sirat Jahan Shopna, gave Bangladesh the lead in the 14th minute.
Midfielder Monika Chakma provided a cross inside the box from the right flank before Shamsunnahar placed the ball home.
Krishna doubled the margin in the 42nd minute utilising a defensive error three minutes before the half time.
Nepal were back in the game once when Anita’s shot from the box beat Bangladesh keeper Rupna Chakma in the 70th minute.
Five minutes later, Krishna completed her brace after having a through pass from the midfield as her shot from the box beat Nepal keeper and captain Anjila Tumbapo Subba.
