Guinean forward Ismail Bangoura scored his first hat-trick of this edition’s Bangladesh Premier League to give Mohammedan Sporting Club a comfortable 5-0 win over Rahmatganj MFS at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday. While Brothers Union sealed a 3-1 win against Feni Soccer Club in second match of the day at the same venue. With the treble, Bangoura also moved to the second position of the goal scorers’ chart with eight goals.
For the winners, Jewel Rana and Tawhidul Alam Sabuz scored the other two goals.
The win took Mohammedan into the second position of the points table with 17 points. Abahani Limited have the same number of points but Mohammedan were ahead of them for their better goal difference.
Mohammedan scored their first three goals within a spare of eight minutes of the first-half as Bangoura began the rout in the 23rd minute.
Jewel Rana headed towards Bangoura right in front of the goal and the Guinean chested the ball down before volleying home past Rahmatganj keeper Al-Amin.
Bangoura doubled the lead three minutes later with a header following a cross by Nurul Alam Faisal from the left-flank.
Jewel made it 3-0 in the 30th minute with a brilliant left-footed drive. The striker received a back pass from Arup Baidya and darted inside the box from the right-side before firing a powerful shot which went into the far corner of the net.
Tawhidul Alam Sabuz scored his fourth of the league in the 76th minute as the number 10 headed home on a low cross from Arup.
Bangoura completed his hat-trick three minutes before the stipulated time when Mobarak provided a cut back to Bangoura who made no mistake to send the ball home.
In the other game, Augustine Walson scored twice for Brothers to move to the top of the goal scorers’ list with nine goals. The Haitian opened the scoreline with a 29th minute strike before veteran midfielder Azmal Hossain Biddut leveled the margin two minutes later for Feni Soccer.
Nigerian forward Kester Akon put Brothers ahead again in the 62nd minute before Walson scored his second in the stoppage time to seal the victory for Brothers.
With the victory, Brothers earned 17 points playing 9 matches while Soccer remained with 8 points by playing the same number of outings.
