The Bangladesh Cricket Board may not allow left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman to play in the forthcoming Pakistan Super League as it is concerned about his workload.
Mustafiz was picked by Lahore Qalandars for the first edition of the Pakistan Super League in gold category worth $50,000. However, BCB said it may ask the player to withdraw his name and if necessary may even compensate him for his sacrifice.
Mustafiz has remained an integral part of Bangladesh squad for all three formats ever since he made his international debut against Pakistan in a Twenty20 International on April 24 of last year.
The BCB officials said they want the prodigious left-arm pacer to remain fresh ahead of the busy international schedule in February-March.
Bangladesh will play in the inaugural Asia Cup in February at home before leaving for India to participate in the ICC World Twenty20.
‘Basically we will take the observation of our physician before giving him the NOC,’ BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told New Age on Wednesday.
‘He [Mustafiz] is a young prospect, so we don’t want to take any risk with him.
‘We must consider his age and see whether he can take the load as there are other T20 assignments coming up after the PSL,’ he said.
