The Bangladesh Football Federation is still in a dark about beginning of the Youth Football Academy in Sylhet as the NSC could utilise the money, allocated by the government for the project, in time.
The finance ministry had allocated Tk 1.95 crore for the financial year 2012-2013 but the NSC did not show much interest in utilising the amount.‘The ministry of finance took back the allocation for our delay in starting the work but the ministry of youth and sports is continuing the renovation work,’ said Shibnath Roy, secretary of the NSC, on Monday.
‘We are hopeful that we will finish the work within one or two months,’ he added.
But the BFF is still in doubt whether the work will be completed any time soon.
‘The way the renovation work was going on we thought we would get the BKSP ready by mid November but as far as we know the work has not resumed after the Eid-ul Azha vacation. We also heard that the allocation money was taken back by the ministry of finance,’ said BFF secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag.
‘We are doubtful if the work will finish this year,’ he added.
To start the academy the BFF had selected 64 players in two different age categories last year also appointed Dutch coach Rene Koster to train them. FIFA also provided $3.5 lakh to the BFF to run the youth academy.
