The Bangladesh Football Federation has agreed to pay the unpaid salary worth $50,000 (Tk 39.38 lakh approximately) to the former national team’s assistant coach Rene Koster, after the Dutchman lodged an appeal to FIFA, said BFF officials on Saturday. Earlier, the BFF refused to pay the three-month salary of the Dutch coach when he left the country without informing the federation and didn’t return.
As a result, Koster lodged an appeal to the world football governing body and inspecting the whole issue, FIFA ordered the BFF on March 7 to pay the Dutchman Swiss Franc 80,000 ($81,000 approximately) immediately.
After receiving the FIFA order, BFF said they made a negotiation with the coach, who agreed to receive $50,000.
‘Actually, Koster was due 55,000 euro as three month’s pending salary,’ said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag.
‘FIFA also added some compensation and levy that made it to a total of Swiss Franc 80,000. After getting the FIFA decision we discussed the matter with Koster and also said to him that we would lodge a counter complaint against him for breaking the contract for not returning to the job.
‘When we took a strong stand, he agreed to take $50,000 which we will pay the amount through installments.’
Earlier, BFF appointed Koster as assistant coach of erstwhile head coach of the national team Lodewijk de Kruif in 2013.
