The fate of proposed T20 tournament uncertain
Bangla-desh Cricket Board vice-president Ahmed Sazzadul Alam Bobby said on Friday that he has declined to take the responsibility of co-ordinator for the proposed Bangladesh Premier League.
Bobby’s name was proposed by the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board long ago as the board was eying to host a Twenty20 competition in the shape of cash-rich Indian Premier League.
However, a group led by BCB director Dewan Shafiul Arefin Tutul opposed his nomination and refused to accept the proposed committee. The group insisted the Chittagong-based director, Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, be made the member-secretary of the committee called the BPL governing council.
The issue dominated the recent board meeting in Sylhet that ended at dawn after starting from the previous afternoon.
‘I have already informed the BCB president that I cannot work in this kind of circumstance. I requested him to hand over the responsibility to someone else,’ Bobby told New Age.
The fate of the tournament became uncertain as the event management company employed by the board asked the BCB officials to submit the names of the Indian players who will participate in the competition before signing an agreement.
Officials said it may not be possible to give them any guarantee about the participation of Indian players, which made the whole process uncertain.
A similar competition planned by Cricket Sri Lanka has already been postponed for the same reason and officials said it is unlikely for them to hold such a mega tournament unless BCCI comes to their aid.
