Brothers Union moved to fourth position in the Bangladesh Premier Football League standings after a 2-1 win over promoted side Chittagong Abahani at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday. Brothers recorded their second consecutive victory and the Oranges now have six points from four matches. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra and Abahani Limited occupy the top three places.
After recently getting the better of the highly-fancied Sheikh Russell, Brothers began the game in an attacking mode as they opened their account in the 32nd minute. Jewel Rana beat opposition goalkeeper Piaruzzaman with a thumping shot following a through-ball from teammate Rubel Mia.
Brothers almost doubled the lead in the 41st minute but Jewel’s sliding header came off the woodwork.
The Oranges though finally secured the tie after scoring their second goal in the 83rd minute. Brothers’ Nigerian recruit Victory Antoni sent the ball crashing into the back of the net after Rubel’s initial shot was blocked by Piaruzzaman.
Chittagong Abahani reduced the margin three minutes from time when substitute forward Safatur Rahman headed in a Javed Khan cross.
