Kingsley Chigozie scored a hat-trick as Brothers Union registered a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Arambagh Krira Sangha in the Bangladesh Premier League on Saturday.
Arambagh were 2-0 up within three minutes after kick-off thanks to their Liberian striker Benjamin Cooper’s double strike before Brothers Union’s Kingsley came into the scene after 20 minutes to slowly take the match out of Arambagh’s control.
Cooper shocked Brothers in the very first minute of the match, scoring with a curling left-footer from the middle of the box after being fed by his Nigerian attacking partner Eleta.
Eleta helped Cooper score the second one as well two minutes later and this time Cooper placed Eleta’s square pass from close range.
Brothers, however, took about fifteen minutes to absorb the early shock and struck back in the 23rd minute with Kingsley tucking the ball home after his compatriot Victory Anthony’s shot had come off the upright.
Arambagh were still the dominant side on the field with a better ball possession and they scored their third goal through Nigerian midfielder Umokoro Goodwin who ran on to a back pass by Eleta inside the area and found the Brothers net with a strong grounder.
Brothers midfielder Deedarul Alam reduced the margin in the 42nd minute, placing a Khan Mohammad Tara free-kick into the net with a side volley as they went into the breather trailing by 2-3.
Brothers adopted an all-out strategy in the second half. They, however, did not have to wait long as Kingsley levelled the margin ten minutes into the second half, heading in Kabir Hossain’s cross from the right.
Kingsley completed his first hat-trick of the season and gave his side a much deserved lead in 60th minute when he lobbed the ball over the onrushing Arambagh goalkeeper Mohammad Selim.
Brothers, who lost their first leg match 2-1 against the same opponents, took their tally to 14 points and climbed three places up to fifth in the league standings, while Arambagh’s relegation tension increased after their sixth defeat in 11 matches. They are at the bottom of the 11-team league with nine points in total.
