Brothers Union’s Danilo Rafael and Tanmay Hossain Taru scored a goal apiece in the second half to give the orange outfit their first victory in the Bangladesh League with a 2-0 drubbing of Dhaka Mohammedan SC at the Kamalapur stadium on Saturday.
With this win in their fifth match, Brothers climbed two steps up to the seventh position with six points, while the second consecutive loss dragged the last edition’s runners-up down to fourth place. Mohammedan earned nine points from their five appearances.
The scenario could have been different had Mohammedan winger Akbar Hossain Ridon not squandered a sure chance three minutes after the restart. Ridon hoisted an Anwar Hossain cross over the bar from just inside the six-yard box with the post ajar in front of him.
However, they had to pay the price for that mistake when Brothers Union’s Brazilian defender Danilo put his side ahead in the next minute. Danilo jumped highest to head home a free-kick taken by his compatriot Everton Souza Santos.
Everton shone again two minutes before the final whistle. He entered the Motijheel outfit’s danger area through the left wing and released the ball to an unmarked Taru, who had replaced Faisal Mahmood just five minutes earlier, and the striker ruffled the net with a powerful right-footer.
Mohammedan coach Shafiqul Islam Manik rued the missed chance after the match. ‘If we cannot take the opportunities we will have to suffer always. The losses are increasing the pressure on us,’ said Manik.
Brothers coach Wasim Iqbal was relieved man. ‘This win was much needed for us. It will inspire my boys to work hard to return to the track,’ Wasim remarked.
