The High Court (HC) on Wednesday directed the government to transfer Oishee Rahman, the prime accused in connection with the killing of her parents, to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from jail, to determine her mental condition. In response to a writ petition, the HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed directed the government for detailed and in-depth assessment of her mental condition before and after the killing incident of her parents. In its interim order, the HC also directed the government to determine her account of taking drugs.
The court also issued a rule asking the government to explain why determination of Oishee’s mental condition before and after the murder of her parents should not be made by transferring her to BSMMU from jail.
The home secretary, law secretary and Social Welfare secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station and investigation officer of the case have been asked to implement the HC directives and reply to the rule.
