The government has decided to observe a minute’s silence in Dhaka city on October 15 from 10:00 to 10:01 a.m. to raise awareness about noise pollution.
The ministry of environment, forests and climate change took the decision in an inter-ministerial meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday to prevent noise pollution, according to a press release.
A special campaign on noise pollution control will also be conducted from 9:30am to 10:00am on the day at 10 noisy places in the city. Awareness stickers will be distributed among noisemakers.
Later, Dhaka city will remain silent from 10:00am to 10:01am, according to the declaration.
To make the programme successful, cooperation was sought from all concerned, including Dhaka’s north and south city corporations, all types of transport and construction associations, BRTA, Cabinet Division, Public Security Division, Local Government Division, Road Transport and Highways Division, Secondary and Higher Education Department, police, scouts and all media.
Environment secretary Farhina Ahmed chaired the meeting, while additional secretaries Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Md Mizanur Rahman, Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Fahmida Khanam, and representatives of various ministries and departments were present.
