The last round matches of the Dhaka Premier League will be held today in three different venues with several permutations and combinations as three teams are still in the contention to win the title.
Abahani Limited, who are leading the pack with 20 points from 14 games, are in the advantageous position as a win for them against holders Prime Bank Cricket Club will almost seal the deal for them.
Abahani, who have been in the centre stage in many on and off the field controversies, however, will not be absolutely sure about the feat as their match against Prime Doleshwar, another prime contender, is still pending.
Doleshwar, who have currently 18 points from 14 games, will take on Legends of Rupganj at BKSP and if they can win the match and can grab two points from the halted game they could end up with equal points of Abahani.
In that case the number of wins and head to head record will also be equal for Abahani and Doleshwar and the net run rate will be the decisive factor to determine the championship.
If Abahani lose today and Doleshwar win the halted match will become the title decider.
In this complex web of mathematical probabilities, Rupganj also see a ray of hope as their win and Abahani not getting more than one point in their remaining two games will give them the title.
The other match of the round between Victoria Sporting Club and Mohammedan Sporting Club at Fatullah will be mere academic as both the teams are out of championship race with 17 and 16 points respectively.
The halted match between Abahani and Doleshwar could be held on June 24 and a final decision regarding this is expected today.
The committee formed on Sunday to investigate the matter in 72 hours claimed that a bias-free report will be submitted in time after following the due procedure.
‘The hearing has been going on, we are hopeful we will submit it in time. We shall try to do that by tomorrow [Today],’Nazmul Karim Tinku, chairman of the umpires’ committee told reporters after a meeting on Tuesday.
Tinku added they will be listening from the umpires, organisers and concerned authority of CCDM before giving their decision.
‘I am confirming you that it will be a neutral decision and the board will take the final decision following our decision,’ added Tinku, who is also a director of BCB.
Senior match referee and former national team captain Roquibul Hassan, who is also a member of the probe committee, added that they are not concerned about today’s matches and their report will not depend on that.
Roquibul told that they will not also think whether this match will be pivotal for the championship or not and they will just prepare a neutral report considering all relevant factors.
Roqibul also told that they will probe the allegations against Tamim Iqbal, Abahani captain and senior national team player.
‘Our decision is neutral decision, we are not thinking whether this will decide the championship or favour anybody,’ said Roquibul.
‘There is nothing to do with tomorrow’s [Today] match. We will do our work. We don’t even know if there is a match tomorrow.’
‘We received some allegations against Tamim. We also summoned him for the hearing.’
