A Dhaka University student was killed in a road accident at the Hazrat Shahjalal Airport roundabout on Tuesday afternoon.
The student was Billal Hossain, 25, a master’s student of sociology and resident of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall. One of his relatives, Mizanur Rahman, was also seriously injured in the accident.
Witness and the police said the accident had taken place as bus of the Turag Paribahan hit them when they were crossing the road about 3:00pm. Both were critically injured.
Both of them were taken to Uttara Women’s Medical College where Billal died from his injuries about 5:00pm.
Mizan was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated, the police said. He was reported to be in a critical condition.
Billal was a resident of Lakshmipur. Details of him could not be immediately established.
The university proctor, KM Saiful Islam, said Billal’s elder brother had come to receive the body.
The police seized the bus and arrested the driver, Airport police subinspector Maruf Ahmed said.
Police deployment on the university campus was, meanwhile, reinforced as students tried to take to the streets.
