Amitabh Bachchan makes his Hollywood debut

“The Great Gatsby”
Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan is set to make his Hollywood debut in director Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” in which Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio will play the lead role.
Warner Bros, the distributor of the film, said in a statement here on Wednesday that 68-year-old Bachchan will play Meyer Wolfsheim who helps DiCaprio’s character Jay Gatsby earn a living in post-World War I New York,chasing the great American dream.
The US $ 125million project is a 3D adaptation of the classic F Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name published in 1925. The shooting for the film began this week in Sydney.
Bachchan, also called the Big B in Bollywood, is now busy shooting for the popular TV game show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” and he may fly to Australia fort the portion of the shooting involving him sometime later this month.
The eponymous 1974 Hollywood film had Robert Redford in the role of Jay Gatsby.
Luhrmann, known for films like Oscar-winning “Moulin Rouge” and ”Australia” said the story of ‘The Great Gatsby’ transcends time and geography.
The movie’s other cast members include Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton,Carey Mulligan, and newcomer Elizabeth Debicki.
Since, Bachchan embarked on his Bollywood journey nearly four decades ago and has acted in nearly 200 films, is the latest to appear in a Hollywood film after Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan and Mallika Sherawat.
Anil Kapoor is set to play the main negative role in Hollywood film “Mission Impossible 4 “and Freida Pinto, who shot to fame with multiple Oscar-winning “Slumdog Millionaire”, will feature in Michael Winterbottom’s movie recently shot in India.
