The Bangladesh Football Federation is likely to appoint former Barcelona right-back Gonzalo Sanchez Moreno for its national youth academy coach in Sylhet as the BFF president Kazi Salahuddin will meet with the Spaniard at the BFF House today. The Catalan represented Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League in 1994 alongside Brazilian star Romario and current Bayern Munich coach Josep Guardiola under the guidance of Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.
Moreno had mostly involved with the Barcelona B team during his playing career where he played for three seasons — 1993/1994, 1994/1995 and 1997/1998.
The Spaniard, who worked as a technical staff in the French Gilles Hugon in Madagascar in 2013, also guided Madagascar Under-17 team in the same year.
He also worked with the Madagascar club DG CNaPS Sports for a short period.
The 43-year old has been living in Dhaka for last two months with his wife, who is working in UNICEF.
BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag said they will make the final comments about his recruitment after today’s meeting.
‘We assessed his bio-data and decided to talk with him briefly,’ said Shohag.
‘After the meeting we will announce about the recruitment.’
