Former national football team captain and goalkeeper Motaleb Hossain died of cardiac arrest at the house of his relatives in capital’s Bhuter Gali area on Sunday. He was 67.
He is survived by his wife, one son, and one daughter.
He was buried at the Azimpur graveyard after his second namaz-e-janaza had been held at the Abahani Club premises.
Considered one the best goalkeepers of the 1970s and the 1980s, Motaleb spent most of his playing career at Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society before he ended his career at Abahani.
He won three consecutive Dhaka Senior Division League titles in 1981, 1983 and 1984 with Abahani.
Motaleb captained Bangladesh team in 1982 Delhi Asian Games where the men in Red and Green managed their first ever Asian Games victory over Malaysia by 2-1 margin.
Bangladesh Football Federation and Abahani Limited expressed their deep condolences at the sudden death of Motaleb.
