Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at a press conference on Friday urged Hefazat-e-Islam to withdraw its Dhaka siege programme considering the rescue operations of the tragic Savar building collapse incident.
“The programme will create a new crisis in the country’s political arena,” said FBCCI President Kazi Akramuddin urging the Islamic party to avoid Sunday’s blockade programme for the betterment of the country. Held at the FBCCI auditorium, the conference was also attended among others by FBCCI former President AK Azad, BKMEA President Selim Osman, BGMEA President Md. Atiqul Islam, FBCCI first-Vice President Manwara Hakim Ali and Vice-president Helaluddin. The country is passing through a crucial situation due to political unrest, frequent hartal calls, said Akram adding that the recent Savar building collapse made the situation more complicated. Under this situation, any negative programme like Dhaka Siege may cast an adverse impact, said the FBCCI president.
Expressing deep concern over the devastative building collapse at Savar, the FBCCIchief requested the leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam to withdraw their programme which he said, will hamper the rescue operation as well as the rehabilitation activities of Savar victims.
The FBCCI leader also requested all concerned to refrain themselves from activities suicidal for the country’s trade and business. “As a business leader I hate all kinds of destructive activities like hartals and blockade which is pushing the country’s economy towards a disaster,” said Akram. He also appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her call for the dialogue with the main opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia. The FBCCI president hoped that the initiative would yield some positive results which is urgently needed for the smooth functioning of the country’s economy.
The people of the country have deep faith in Islam and its principles. It is our moral duty to protect the serine of Islam. Any unethical activities in the name of Islam will be defended, said the FBCCI president urging the Hefazat leaders to withdraw their programme. Akram said, the victims of the Savar incident, who would be able to work, will be provided employment in banks and financial in
stitutions. Dependents of victims will also get such opportunities.
