The prices of most of fish increased on the retail markets in the capital over the week ending Friday but the price of hilsa ease after Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year.
Traders said that the prices of fish increased due to supply shortage.
The prices of all varieties of fish except hilsa increased by Tk 50-Tk 80 a kilogram over the week.
Rohita increased to Tk 250-Tk 300 a kg from Tk 200-Tk 300, katla to Tk 220-Tk 300 a kg from Tk 180-Tk 250 a kg, pangas to Tk 140-Tk 250 a kg from Tk 120-Tk 180 and tilapia to Tk 140-Tk 160 a kg from Tk 120-Tk 140 depending on their size and quality.
The prices of all varieties of local fish including shing, taki, kai and bele increased by Tk 20-Tk 50 a kg.
Shing was selling at Tk 600 a kg, taki at Tk 250 a kg, kai at Tk 280 a kg and bele at Tk 350 a kg on Friday.
Narayan Chandra Barman, a retailer at the Shantinagar kitchen market, said the prices of most of fish went up due to a supply shortage.
He said that they had to buy fish at higher prices from the wholesale markets.
The price of hilsa has decreased almost one third on the capital’s retail markets after the celebration of Bangla New Year.
The price of a hilsa weighing around 900 grams to1 kg decreased by Tk 500 a kg and was selling at Tk 1,200-Tk 1,500 a kg on Friday.
A piece of hilsa weighing 1.2 kg to 1.5 kg decreased by Tk 700 a kg and was selling at Tk 1,600-Tk 1,900 on the day.
Hilsa weighing around 600 grams to 800 grams was selling at Tk 600 to Tk 750 a piece at Karwan Bazar kitchen market on Friday.
The prices of most of the vegetables decreased by Tk 5-Tk 10 a kg over the week.
Aubergine was retailing at Tk 30 a kg, cucumber at Tk 15 a kg, bitter gourd at Tk 20 a kg, okra at Tk 30 a kg, tomato at Tk 20 a kg, bean at Tk 25 a kg, cabbage and papaya at Tk 25 a kg on the day.
Green chilli price decreased by Tk 20 a kg and was selling at Tk 60 a kg on the day.
The price of imported garlic increased by Tk 10 a kg and was selling at Tk 110 a kg while the local garlic was retailing at Tk 60 a kg on the day.
The price of onion remained unchanged and the commodity was selling at Tk 25 a kg while the imported onion was selling at Tk 23 a kg over the week.
The price of fine variety of red lentil called ‘kangaroo’ remained unchanged and was selling at Tk 130 a kg on Friday while the local variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 110 a kg.
Potato price remained unchanged and was selling at Tk 15 a kg on the day.
The price of egg remained unchanged and was retailing at Tk 35-Tk 36 a hali (four pieces) on the city’s retail markets.
Broiler price remained steady and was selling at Tk 150-Tk 160 a kg on the day.
The prices of beef and mutton remained unchanged and were selling at Tk 280-Tk 300 a kg and Tk 425-Tk 450 a kg respectively on Friday.
Both unpacked soya bean and super palm oil prices remained unchanged and were retailing at Tk 120 a kg and Tk 82 a kg respectively on the day.
The price of bottled soya bean oil (five litres) remained unchanged and was selling at Tk 655 to Tk 665 on Karwan Bazar kitchen market.
The price of sugar remained steady and the commodity was selling at Tk 48 a kg on the day.
