The government has taken elaborate programmes to welcome the Bangla New Year 1420 through traditional Pahela Baishakh celebrations.
As part of the programmes, the first day of Bangla new year will be government holiday. The president and the prime minister will give separate massages greeting the people on the eve of the new year.
The programmes of the day will begin in the city with the musical soiree of Chhayanaut, a leading cultural organisation of the country, at Ramna green at dawn.
Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will telecast live the programme from Ramna Batamul. Other private television channels and radio will also broadcast the programmes.
Besides, different national dailies will publish supplements highlighting significance of the Bengali culture relating to Pahela boishak.
Local administration will arrange discussions, cultural programmes and Grameen Mela in all divisions, districts and upazila headquarters on the day.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Nazrul Institute and Jatiya Grantha Kendra will arrange discussion and cultural programmes to observe the day.
Bangla Academy will hold a three-day fair that includes discussion and folk festival to celebrate the Bangla new year.
Bangladesh Lok and Karu Shilpa Foundation at Sonargaon will arrange three-day programme while all museums including the Jatiya Jadughar will remain open for students and disabled children for visit without tickets.
Besides, Jatiya Jadughar (national museum) will a arrange four-day cake festival, Karu shilpa mela and cultural function and all educational institutions will celebrate the Pahela
Boishak with their respective colorful programmes.
Department of public library will arrange essay competition for the students on the significance of the day.
