The Bangladesh Cricket Board will extend the tenure of national coach Chandika Hathurusinghe if he is available, said BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Friday.
Hathurusinghe will complete his two-year tenure with Bangladesh in June.
The Sri Lankan enjoyed some remarkable success during his time in Bangladesh, guiding the national team to 30 wins in all formats out of 61 matches.
With Hathurusinghe at the helm as coach, The Tigers lost 24 matches, drew four matches with three others being postponed.
‘Definitely we will go after Hathurusinghe [Chandika] if he is available,’ Nazmul told reporters at Gulshan on Friday
‘BCB will discuss the matter with them at an appropriate time.’
Nazmul said that he sees no problem with Hathurusinghe being involved in strategic decision during the course of play.
Hathurusinghe often dictate the terms, which includes the on-field decision supposed to be taken by the captain of the side. His inference in field placement and bowling changes reportedly did not go well with skipper Mashrafee bin Muratza on quite a few occasions.
‘The coach can always suggest the captain but it is up to him to accept it or not,’ said Nazmul. ‘I don’t see any problem. It can always happen,’ he said, adding that Hathurusinghe was also given the
authority to select the team.
‘Before the India match I told the coach your decision is final regarding selecting the playing XI and it went on that way in the tournament.’
