Hefazat-e Islam leaders on Friday branded the government as atheist and demanded its ouster. “This government has strayed from the path of Islam. It has removed the clause on full confidence in Almighty Allah from the Constitution and formulated an anti-Islam women’s policy,” a leader of the Islamist organisation told a Shane Resalat rally on the premises of Jamiatul Falah National Mosque here. Hefazat’s Bangladesh unit chief, Ahmed Shafi, urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to meet the outfit’s 13 demands during the current session of the House.
“Our goal is not to grab state power. We just want the implementation of our demands. So, we urge the government to address them immediately in Parliament,” he added.
Taking a belligerent tone, Shafi said, “This country belongs to Allah and only Muslims have the right to live here. Those who do not believe in Allah will have to live in under the soil.”
The Hefazat Ameer declared a holy war against anti-Islam activities. “Our ongoing holy war is only for protecting Islam. I thank my Muslim brothers, who have confirmed their participation in the holy war for the interest of our religion,” he added.
Senior Nayebe Ameer of Hefazat, Mohibullah Babu Nagori, said the Awami League-led government had lost its right to rule this Muslim country after it started patronising atheism.
The Hefazat leaders reiterated his outfit’s resolve to make a “Dhaka-seize” programme on May 5 a grand success. “We will resist all attempts by the government or some other quarters to block our leaders and activists from going towards Dhaka that day,” he warned.
Other Hefazat leaders also criticised the governmnet’s delay in implementing the outfit’s demands.
