Both Dhaka Abahani Limited and Chittagong Abahani tasted their first success in the Bangladesh Premier League winning their respective matches at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong on Friday.
Dhaka Abahani edged past Feni Soccer Club 1-0 before hosts Chittagong Abahani thrashed Mohammedan Sporting Club by 4-2 goals in an entertaining second match of the day.The two Abahanis played out a 1-1 draw in the opening round of the league.
National winger Jewel Rana scored the winner for four-time champions Dhaka Abahani in the dying minutes of the first-half when he poked the ball in from a goal mouth melee.
Feni were impressive in the first half when they came close to scoring twice before being denied by Abahani defender Topu Barman and Shahidul Alam Sohel respectively in 26th and 30th minute.
After conceding the goal, Feni tried hard to make the things level but Abahani’s rock solid defence kept them at bay.
Meanwhile, in the second match of the day, Rubel Miah scored twice to set up the win for hosts.
The home side went ahead in the 41st minute when Rubel’s header from a hand shacking distance found the back of the net before Haitian forward Leonel Saint Preux doubled the lead in the added time of the first half from the spot.
Chittagong Abahani were awarded penalty as Mohammedan keeper Mohammed Nehal brought down Preux inside the box.
Rubel found his second of the night in the 53rd minute as upon receiving a neat pass from Sohel Rana, the quick winger dodged past his marker to fire the ball home from edge of the box.
Substitute forward Aminur Rahman Sozib pulled one goal back for Mohammedan in the 76th minute before Zahid Hossain sealed the victory with a neat finishing in the 89th minute.
Substitute forward Abdul Malek reduced the margin for Mohammedan with a stoppage time strike.
