Bangladesh football coach Nikola Ilievski has resigned on Tuesday following the team’s poor performance in the recently concluded SAFF Championship in New Delhi.
The Macedonian coach has submitted his resignation letter to Bangladesh Football Federation’s national team management committee on Tuesday and is scheduled to leave Bangladesh today, said sources within the BFF.
Ilievski was hugely condemned by the players and the team officials as well as media and fans for his stubbornness and too much of experimentation with the team.
The coach made at least four changes in the team in each of the three matches of the SAFF Championship which ultimately knocked Bangladesh out of the tournament after the first round. Ilievski was also seen to have behaved badly with the players publicly.
This is the third time in nine editions of the South Asian competition that Bangladesh had departed from the first round despite being the highest ranked team on this occasion.
Ilievski is the sixth coach in the BFF’s current governing body’s regime to leave.
He took charge of the national team in late June this year following the departure of previous coach Robert Rubcic who left after being frustrated of long pending payment of his due salaries.
The BFF has called up a press meet at their office today to explain the whole matter elaborately.
