The two-day Nazrul celebration programme jointly organised by Bangladesh and India marking the 113th birth anniversary of the National Poet of Bangladesh Kazi Nazrul Islam, ended on Saturday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Leading artistes from India and Bangladesh performed at the programme that also marks the 90th anniversary of the publication of his epoch making poem Bidrohi (The Rebel).
Eminent Nazrul singer Fatema-tuz-Zohra moved the audience with the rhythmic song Nacher neshai ghor legechhe. Encored by the audience, Zohra presented popular Nazrul song Dur dipo bashini chini tomare chini. And the instrumentalists gave a good support to the singer during the song, which is based on western orchestra composition.
MA Manna rendered Abar keno batayone dip jaliye and Yasmin Mustari presented Kuhu kuhu koyelia.
Indian singer Sushmita Goswami rendered Bakul chapar boney. In response to the repeated request from the audience she sang Ore nil jamunar jaal.
Veteran Indian artistes Pradip Ghosh recited Nazrul poem Dodul Dul, a very rhythmic composition containing five words in each line. He also presented Aguner phulki Chhutey.
Local recitation artiste Bhaswar Bandopadhaya recited Nazrul’s final address for public ‘Jodi ar banshi na baje’ narrating ‘Please do not mention me as a rebel poet only which may create a fearful image of me. Please do not call me as an atheist but my mission is to bridge between Hinduism and Islam.’ Seema Islam recited another Nazrul poem Amar Parichay.
Child artistes also recited at the programme. A class four student of Khulna Public College Sabab Sayem astonished the audience with his spontaneous recitation of The Rebel.
Seven artistes of Rewaaj Performing School led by Munmun Ahmed delighted the audience with the performance of the kathak based dance recital synchronised with Nazrul song Momo mayamoy swapone, choreographed by Munmun Ahmed.
Loko Natya Dal (Sideswari) staged Nazrul’s play Shilpi directed by Farhad Zaman Palash.
Earlier, Nazrul singer Dr. Leena Taposi Khan presented her keynote paper titled ‘Suddya Sure O Banite Nazrul Sangeet’, focusing on the tendency of presenting Nazrul songs in an ‘unexpectedly’ melodious tune, which might create a big problem in future.
