Bangladesh will experience an internet connectivity black out for about an hour early Sunday between 2:00am and 4:00 am due to submarine cable maintenance and repair in Singapore, said internet gateway and submarine cable related officials.
Bangladesh will suffer multiple internet disruptions between August 7 and 11 as the 20,000-kilometre submarine cable undergoes a five-day repair.
As electricity will be shut down during the cable restoration, ‘SEA-ME-WE 4’, the submarine cable which connects Bangladesh with rest of the world, will remain totally inoperative for about an hour, Monwar Hossain, managing director of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd, told The Daily Star.
A few “very important” official connections of the government and corporate houses will be receiving back-up through the help of satellite service and V-Sat, said officials of Bangladesh’s two international internet gateways – Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) and Mango TeleServices Limited.
Talking to The Daily Star, Mir Masud Kabir, MD of Mango Teleservices, said after the completion of the repair, expectedly on August 11, the cable will be configured and similar disruption will take place in Bangladesh.
