The Bangladesh Football Federation and Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited renewed their contract to sponsor the 2013-2014 National School Football Championship at
the Islami Bank headquarters at Motijheel on Thursday.
Islami Bank has pledged Tk 4 crore – Tk 1 crore less than the last contract – to sponsor the nationwide school football tournament, stipulating that the BFF must also arrange a college football edition this year.
Last year’s National School Football Championship featured nearly one lakh players from four thousand eight hundred schools. There were, however, many questions raised about the administration of the tournament, particularly as the former school football committee, led by Dr Mahfuzur Rahman and member secretary Sheikh Md Aslam, has yet to submit the final expenditure report. Islami Bank was also disappointed at the tournament’s outcomes.
Islami Bank agreed, however, to assist the BFF as a part of its corporate social responsibility.
‘We are happy to help the BFF organise the school football tournament,’ said Abdul Mannan, managing director of Islami Bank Limited. He also promised that if the BFF manages the tournament successfully they will continue
the partnership in the future.
BFF vice-president Tabith Awual said they will hold the Championship in October, after which they will organise a college football tournament.
