After being unable to win any trophy, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club made a desperate attempt to assemble a strong team for the next season and they have already confirmed the services of some
top players from the other sides, said the officials.
National team players Mamunul Islam and Ashraf Mahmud Linkon from newly-crowned Bangladesh Premier League champions Sheikh Russell, Shakhawat Hossain Rony from Abahani Limited, Sohel Rana from Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Keshta Kumar and Toklis Ahmed from Team BJMC all have reportedly agreed to play for Jamal next season.
Jamal also confirmed Mobarak Hossain and Mohammed Yasin from Mohammedan and Abahani’s second goalkeeper Mazharul Islam Himel in a bid to strengthen their squad.
Playmaker Mamunul, the national team’s vice-captain, who played a key role in Sheikh Russell’s treble win, admitted his transfer to Jamal saying he has accepted an offer of Tk 37 lakh for one season.
If he is given the amount, it will make him the highest ever paid player in Bangladesh’s football history.
`Last year I received the highest payment, Tk 30 lakh, from Sheikh Russell but this time they have not shown any interest yet,’ said Mamunul. On the other hand, Jamal gave me an attractive proposal, as a professional player I took the proposal positively.’
Linkon, the national team defender, also confirmed his move to Sheikh Jamal on a transfer fee of Tk 33 lakh.
Manzur Kader, president of Sheikh Jamal, however, denied the speculation saying that they are yet to think about the team for the next season.
The season is still not over. So there is no reason we will think about the team for the next season. We will think about it only after the season ends.’
