The curtain of the eighth Bangladesh Premier League fell on Saturday with champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defeating Abahnai Limited by 2-1 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Jamal came from a goal behind to earn all three points and amassed 51 points from their slotted 20 matches. Nasirul Islam Nasir put Abahani ahead in the 65th minute before Nigerian Emeka Darlington equalised four minutes later by scoring his 19th goal of the season to finish as the top scorer of the league.
Landing Darboe sealed Jamal’s 16th victory just a minute before the stipulated time.
Abahani were reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute when Wahed Ahmed received back-to-back yellow cards before their defender Mamun Miah received a straight marching order after the match for his unsporting behaviour.
With the defeat, the Sky Blues finished the season in fourth place with 35 points while Sheikh Russell became runners-up with 42 points and Mohammedan ended third with 38 points.
