Bangladesh successfully progressed to the cup phase of the ICC U-19 World Cup to setup a quarter-final clash against defending champions Australia after an easy seven-wicket victory over Namibia in their last group match on Thursday.
The win meant Bangladesh finished as runners-up of group D, ahead of Sri Lanka and below South Africa.
A tidy bowling performance at Brisbane saw the Bangladeshis bowl their less-fancied opponents out for only 151 runs in 49.4 overs before they rode on an unbeaten 70 from opener Liton Das to cruise to 155-3 in 37 overs.
Opting to bat first, Namibia batters were finding it difficult to score while they also occupied the crease. The only notable score came from Stephan Baard who made 40.
Bangladesh bowlers bowled exceptionally well, particularly Nayeem Islam Jr who grabbed 2-19 off his 10 overs. Abu Jayed claimed 3-29 while his new-ball partner Taskin Ahmed took 2-29.
Liton, playing 115 balls with five fours, anchored the chase while the in-form skipper, Anamul Haque, contributed 32 runs as Bangladesh achieved their target easily with 13 overs remaining.
The junior Tigers are up for a fierce battle on Sunday as when they take on the hosts in the first quarter-final of the big event.
A win will confirm Bangladesh a semi-final birth while a defeat will see them play the fifth place play-off semi-final against winners of the fourth quarter-final between England and South Africa.
