In an immediate reaction to the ultimatum given by the opposition leader for holding the election under non-partisan government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Khaleda has taken the course of confrontation. “But the door of dialogue is still open,” Mahbubul Huq Shakil, PM’s special assistant quoted the prime minister as saying. Meanwhile, the leaders of the ruling grand alliance criticised the opposition leader for her ultimatum saying that she was pushing the country towards confrontation. They also said that the 14-party alliance would face the ultimatum politically.
AL leader Mohammad Nasim said that Khaleda had given such ultimatum many times in the last four years but she could not achieve anything.
“The present government is not afraid of such ultimatum and no illogical demand of the opposition would be accepted, “he said.
AL leader Suranjeet Sengupta said that the nation could not expect that the opposition leader would reject the proposal for dialogue.
Regarding Khaleda’s offer for having a discussion on the caretaker government framework over a cup of tea at her residence, Suranjeet said that since she (Khaleda) had rejected the dialogue offer from the prime minister, it would be difficult for the PM to accept Khaleda’s invitation.
Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon said that Khaleda would not gain anything through issuing such an ultimatum.
“She has to sit for a dialogue” he added.
