Former Bangladesh and Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra coach George Kotan will be arriving Dhaka today to take charge of Abahani Limited. Kotan guided Bangladesh to their maiden SAFF Championship title at home in 2003 but he failed to deliver Muktijoddha any silverware in his two years in charge. After two barren seasons under two Iranian coaches Ardeshir Pournimat and Ali Akbar por Muslimi, four-time Bangladesh Premier League champions, Abahani appointed the 68-year old Hungarian with high hopes.
Abahani manager Sattyajit Dus Rupu told reporters on Sunday that Kotan will join the training camp in the evening hours after his arrival.
‘We considered him as the head coach for his successful past with the Bangladesh national team. He knows the style of Bangladesh very well,’ said Rupu.
Rupu added that Kotan selected three Hungarian players, who were ready to travel with him but the club insisted them to come in the first week of January.
‘Kotan told us that he has chosen three Hungarian players but we told him the club will take the final decision after watching them in the training,’ Rupu said.
