Abdul Kuddus Boyati enthralled the audience presenting different types of traditional songs in his signature style at a solo musical programme on Saturday at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Gulshan.
His high pitched voice modulation, brilliant skill of expressing the emotion of the lyrics through gesture and movement and wonderful ability of enacting roles of the ballads in live concert wooed the audience.As done in the nightlong concerts in the rural areas, Kuddus Boyati began the show through asan bandona [the traditional way of invocating Lord and then the guru and welcoming the audience to the before the start of the show].
Subsequently, the singer sang a self-composed patriotic song titled Swadhinotar Bangladesh.
It was followed by a romantic number titled Kolshi kakhe kon ruposhi. Like any skill actor, Kuddus Boyati visualised the whole sequence depicted in the ballad featuring a rural girl bathing in the river.
While presenting the ballad in amazing manner, Boyati enacted several characters taking help of a pillow.
He also got hilarious applause for presenting a nuptial number- Palki diya choila jay. He moved the audience through his powerful presentation and demonstration of his improvisation skill with the choir.
He also presented a part from a pala featuring the divine love between Radha and Kirshna. His wonderful ability of transforming from one character to another enthralled the audience.
Kuddus Boyati also gave soulful presentation of some traditional numbers including Duniyata ekta putul khela, Ki sundor ek gaaner pakhi, Krishna paiya monanonde, Tui Jodi amar hoitiri and Kori mana kam chharena.
In response to the audience request Boyati presented his famous number Pagla ghorare and Ei din din noy in his signature style.
‘People of the city are now acquainted with many folk numbers in different fusion styles by many singers who do not bear the essence of the rich traditional music of Bangladesh’, a delighted audience Ankan Banerjee, director of IGCC, told New Age.
‘Abdul Kuddus Boyati is a singer who distinguishes himself for carrying, practising and presenting traditional music of the country in authentic manner’, he added.
Abdul Kuddus Boyati began his career at an early age. He has great contribution in popularising traditional ballads songs worldwide through his performances not only in Bangladesh but also in countries like USA, UK, Australia, France, Qatar, Iraq, and India.
He has been also working for many public awareness generating programmes.
