Table toppers Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club were held to a shock injury time 2-2 draw by Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. Nigerian Emeka Darlington and Haitian Wedson Anselme scored for Jamal before Guinean forward Lamine Camara made it 2-1. But Rahmatganj’s Nigerian forward Gideon Solomon struck the all important equaliser at the death to snatch a crucial point for his club. Jamal, who set a record 9-1 win against Farashganj Sporting Club in their previous match, started the match in style as they could earn the lead in the first minute of the match. But defender Kesto Kumar saw his header following a Mamunul Islam’s corner hit the woodwork. Jamal, however, took the lead just four minutes later when Emeka made no mistake to tap the ball into the net after a neat cross from Toklis Ahmed from the right-flank. Rahmatganj narrowly escaped again in the 18th minute when Wedson saw his powerful attempt from six-yard box hit the woodwork.
The Haitian forward took only two minutes for his redemption when he received a cross from Toklis Ahmed and dribbled past the keeper before slotting the ball home.
Rahmatganj, however reduced the margin in the 41st minute when their Guinean midfielder Camara found the back of the net from 20-yard out.
They wasted a great chance to level the margin in the 83rd minute when Didarul Alam shot straight to Jamal keeper Hemel after receiving a through from Mannaf Rubby.
Mamunul saw his powerful left-footed attempt from outside the box hit the side post in the last minute of the stipulated time.
Rahmatganj upset their much stronger rivals in the last minute of the four-minute stoppage time as Nigerian forward Solomon volleyed a lob of Rubby that went into the net past Jamal keeper.
After the draw, Jamal remained top of the points table with 27 points from 12 matches, four points clear of second placed Mohammedan SC while Rahmatganj moved to seventh position with 10 points from same number of outings.
